NÉDA

• NÉDA part of the project is carried out in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug in Russia.  Néda in Nenets means path or route migrated by reindeer.
• History: Argis-Njapoi-Raidu, a culture and nature tourism project, was implemented jointly by the Sámi Region in Finland and the Nenets Autonomous Okrug in Russia during 2006–2008.  The project was carried out to identify existing tourism services and products and to develop new ones, and to provide training for new tourism providers in the Nenets region.  As it is, the tourism industry is a completely new field of activity for the Nenets region that so far lacks expertise, tourism products and, above all, contacts with national and international tour operators.  Additionally, the infrastructure necessary for providing tourist services is under-developed.  For years now, tourism has been a major industry in the Sámi Region and an important source of earnings in addition to the traditional means of livelihoods.  It is this experience and competence that the Sámi Education Institute wishes to offer its partners in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
• NÉDA ORDYM is thus continuation to Argis-Njapoi-Raidu – project because there is a clear need to maintain the efforts to develop and commercialise tourism products with due regard for the culture of the indigenous peoples and the principles of sustainable development. NÉDA part of the project keeps on providing training in entrepreneurship, demands of international travel and tourism and product marketing in close cooperation between the Sámi Education Institute and the Nenets organisations.
• The project will create, develop and market culture and package tour services on ethnically, ethically and ecologically sustainable basis from the regions’ indigenous peoples’ own perspective and starting points by means of networking, product development and training
• The Sámi Education Institute in Inari, Finland is serving as the Lead Partner in the project.  The NÉDA partners include Inari Event Lapland from the Sámi Region and  the NGO Information Research Center Yasavei Manzara, the Department of Indigenous People of the Nenets District Administration, the Naryan-Mar Socio-Humanitarian College and the Ethnocultural Centre in Naryan-Mar in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
• The NÉDA part of the project is financed by the EU’s Kolarctic ENPI CBC – programme with 682 500 €. In addition, there is local contribution.
